Here are some great winter storage tips for your motorcycle this winter season.
For those of us that live in northern states when the wintertime comes we have to put up our bikes and store them for the winter. Unless you have an off-road motorcycle you cannot drive your order cycle in the snow and sleet. Plus the cold weather becomes extremely cold on a motorcycle.
So we have to store our bikes for the wintertime. What exactly does it mean to store your bike? It doesn’t just mean putting your bike in the garage with a cover over it to keep the dust off it. you have to prepare your motorcycle correctly so that one springtime comes it’s ready to run and also to make it to last longer too.
First off, you can either drain the fuel from the gas tank or add a good fuel stabilizer to the gas that’s left in the tank. Fuel stabilizer cheap and can be bought at a store such as Wal-Mart or any automotive parts store for a few dollars. just follow the directions on the bottle and add as indicated to the gas in your fuel tank.

Next you need to disconnect the motorcycle battery and hook it up to a charger. If you let the battery sit in your motorcycle over the winter it will most likely be dead in the spring cloths because you let it run down you greatly reduce the lifespan of the battery. You never want to let your battery run completely down.
So it is best to get a cheap battery charger and regularly keep up the charge on your battery through the winter period. Then come springtime you just take the battery and disconnect it from the charger and then reinstall it in your motorcycle and you’re set to go. you’ll appreciate it comes summertime when your motorcycle cranks right up.
Some other helpful tips are to make sure you cover your motorcycle to keep the dust off it during the winter. One other bad thing about dust is that over time if you allow it to accumulate on your motorcycle it can cause moisture to build up and possibly start rust. Rust is like cancer and you do not want that to start on your motorcycle. So do what you can to keep the dust off during the winter.
Another helpful tip is to take it to your local motorcycle shop and tell them that you’re going to be winterizing your motorcycle. They may change out some of your fluids including other fluids that are more protective to your bike during the winter cold spell. Be sure and put your motorcycle in a place either inside your house or in your garage away from things that could fall on it – this may sound like a no-brainer, but believe me it happens and I’ve seen the dents and dings that can result from this. it’s preferable to keep your motorcycle in a heated space rather than in a cold garage.
